New and on coming sequencing technology has dramatically altered how genomics research is carried out. Finally, true genomic (genome wide) approaches will be generalized to any species. Although bioinformatics tools will initially be limiting, we anticipate that it is equally - or more - important to develop appropriate statistical and population genetics methods that makes the most of the data. We are primarily working with this aim in mind. Although we are concerned with methods, we carry out also experimental work, mainly but not only, in livestock species. To that end, we are studying the footprint of domestication and artificial selection in the pig genome in cooperation with different international and national teams. A main topic of research has also been the identification of genes responsible for the variation in traits of socio economic interest, again both through the development of specialized methods and software as well as experimentally.
