SEBASTIÁN ERNESTO RAMOS-ONSINS

I obtained the PhD degree in Biological Sciences in 1998 at the Universitat de Barcelona. The thesis was directed by Dr. Montserrat Aguadé and had the title "Anàlisi de variabilitat de la família multigènica Cecropin" using Drosophila as the species of study.

After the PhD defence, I did a short postdoc stay at the Human Genetics Center at Houston (University of Texas) with Prof. Weng-Hsiung Li as supervisor, working in Human evolution. In 1999 to 2001 I was contracted to develop a project (MOTORS, with Prof. M. Aguadé and Prof. O. Savolainen as responsibles) with the objective of transporting molecular and evolutionary tools to species closely related to
A. thaliana. I did a postdoc stay with Dr. J. Rozas at the Universitat de Barcelona where I developed statistical tests to detect the effect of population expansion. In 2002 I started a postdoc in the Max-Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology at Jena (Germany) in the group of Dr. T. Mitchell-Olds, developing analysis of variability at large scale. I returned to Spain in 2005 with an assistant professor position at the Department of Genetics.

In 2008 I won a Ramon y Cajal position at CRAG centre and I developed research in multigenic analysis of variability. In 2013 I was contracted as a senior researcher by the CRAG. At CRAG I have developed my own research line based on studying the patterns of variability, developing statistics and methods to detect different signals of evolutionary events and development of software for the analysis of variability. I have been invited to impart conferences in a number of countries (Germany, France, Finland, USA) in these last years.
